Mother, daughter among four killed in Tangail train accident

Four people, including a mother and her daughter, were killed when a train hit them in Mirhamjani area of Salla Union of Kalihati Upazila, at the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail, around 5:30 am on Wednesday.

The deceased are identified as Basanti, Aarti Rani Das, Shanti Rani and her daughter Shilpi Rani of Nikrail Das Para area of Bhuyapur Upazila of the district.

The relatives of the deceased said that the victims were going to Salla by walking along the railway line on Wednesday morning to bring clothes of zakat. At that time, four people died on the spot when the Dhaka-bound Ekta Express train left from North Bengal hit them.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Setu East Police Station Safiqul Islam said that the bodies of four people were recovered from the spot.

“The accident happened due to carelessness. Following the request of the family members, the bodies have been handed over to them,” said ASI Fazlul Haque of Tangail GRP Police.
