4 killed in Dhanbari bus-auto-rickshaw collision

Four people, including a schoolgirl, were killed and three students injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a battery-operated auto-rickshaw on the Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway in Baghil area of Dhanbari upazila of Tangail at around 1:30 pm on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hakim, 45, son of Niyat Ali of Norilya village of Dhopakhali union of Dhanbari upazila; Mostafa, 53, son of Jalal Mia of Hadira village of the same upazila, Urmi Akhtar, daughter of Abul Kalam of Baghil village and seventh grade student of Bhaighat High School, and Urmi's relative Beethi Akhtar Munni.

Dhanbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) HM Jasim Uddin said a battery-powered auto-rickshaw collided with a Dhaka-bound TS Paribahan bus in the area, leaving Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Mustafa dead on the spot and five others injured.

Urmi died on her way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) while Beethi Akhtar Munni succumbed to her injuries at the same hospital.

Three other injured students are now undergoing treatment at MMCH.
