Derailment in Lawacchara: Rail communication resumes after 15hrs

Train communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed after 15 hours of suspension following derailment of a train at Lawachhara on Saturday morning.

Rail communication was restored at around 7:40pm on Saturday, Sylhet's Bhanugach Station Master Kabir Ahmed told The Daily Samakal.

Two compartments and the engine of a Sylhet-bound train derailed at Lawachhara in Moulvibazar on Saturday morning, snapping Sylhet's rail communication with the rest of the country.

The Udyan Express veered off the tracks at around 5am when it was hit by a falling tree.

Four trains were cancelled on the Dhaka-Sylhet route following the derailment. Confirming the matter, Kulaura Junction Railway Station Master Roman Ahmed said the passengers of the four cancelled trains were notified and they will get their money back.

A five-member probe body was formed to investigate the derailment.
