Mother, child among 3 killed in Chittagong fire

Three people, including a woman and her child, have succumbed to their burn injuries at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Sunday afternoon.

The victims are - Noor Nahar Begum, 30, her son Maruf, 1, and their neighbor Md Imam Uddin, 23.

Firiya, 3, son of Noor Nahar, who died in the fire, sustained burn injuries. The child was admitted to the burn unit of CMCH in critical condition. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami Police Station Ferdous Jahan said the fire originated from a mosquito coil in the residence of Tota Mia in Syed Para area of the port city on Sunday morning. On information, two units of fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within an hour.

The police rescued four people, who suffered burns, from two residential houses and took them to CMCH and three of them succumbed to their injuries in the afternoon.

A total of six tin-shed houses belonging to six owners were burnt in the fire incident.
