Not our duty to help anyone win or lose: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said it is the election commission's (EC) duty to ensure that voters can exercise their rights properly, not to help anyone win or lose.

CEC Awal made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a briefing with officials concerned with the upcoming Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election, held at the auditorium of Khulna Government Women's College on Wednesday.

"There should be no lack of faith among the people. It is not our duty to help anyone win or lose. It is our duty to ensure that voters can exercise their rights to vote properly," CEC Awal said.

Addressing the officials, he said, "Do not take your duties lightly. The presiding officer can stop polling if he wants. It is your duty to maintain order inside the polling station."
