Worker death in Faridpur: Locals blame contractor

Three workers died in Faridpur after mud collapsed on top of them during the construction of a bridge, and locals are blaming the contractor for this incident.

This incident happened at the Jamadardangi area of Sadarpur Upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Jabed Khan, 23, Antar Sheikh, 22, and Julhas Mir, 21.

According to the locals, construction work was going on at a bridge over a canal in the area. The soil was piled on the side of the canal during the construction. A lot of soil got deposited in the canal during a recent bout of rainfall. While trying to remove the soil from the canal, a large pile of soil collapsed on seven workers.

On information, the fire service reached the spot and conducted a rescue mission.

"After trying from 12pm to 2pm, bodies of the three deceased were recovered," said Sadarpur Fire Service Station official Abdus Salam. Locals were able to rescue the other four workers and rushed them to a hospital.

Putting the blame on the contractor agency, locals said they were notified multiple times about the piled-up soil posing a danger to the workers. However, the agency kept ignoring the warnings and forced the workers to continue.
