Journalist killed by miscreants in Jamalpur

Golam Rabbani Nadim, the Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com, who came under attack by miscreants on Wednesday night, died at a hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Nadim, also the Bakshiganj upazila correspondent of Ekattor TV, breathed his last this afternoon while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Family members and colleagues alleged that the journalist was attacked by the men of Mahmudul Alam, chairman of Sadhurpara union parishad of Bakshiganj upazila for publishing corruption reports against him.

Witnesses said some 10-12 people attacked Nadim at Govt college area of Bakshiganj Bazar while he was returning home around 10:00pm.

Locals took him to the Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex. He was then transferred to Jamalpur General Hospital for further care. His condition there started to worsen, therefore he was moved to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Nadim's family claimed it was a planned murder.

Monira Begum, the wife of the deceased Nadim, complained to the journalists saying that “her husband published news about Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu's women scandal and irregularities-corruption. And for this, UP chairman was unhappy with him. Earlier he tried to harass her husband in various ways.”

A protest meeting was held at Jamalpur Press Club on Thursday afternoon demanding the arrest and trial of those involved in Nadim's murder. 

A three-day mourning program was announced in the meeting.

Superintendent of Police Nasir Uddin Ahmed said, “This is a brutal murder. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the murder incident. The preparation of filing a case is also underway.”
