Lightning strike kills three in Sunamganj

Three men have died in two separate incidents of lightning strikes in Bishwambharpur and Derai upazila of Sunamganj district.

The deceased were identified as Selim Miah and Joynal Miah of Jinarpur village in Bishwambharpur upazila, and Abdul Malek of Shyamarchar village in Derai upazila.

Selim and Joynal were among workers dredging sand from the Dhopajan Chalti river in Solukabad union of Bishwambharpur upazila. They both died when lightning struck at around 10:30am on Saturday, locals said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Malek was fishing in a haor when he died from a lightning strike the same day.

Confirming the matter, Solukabad Union Parishad Chairman Md Nure Alam Siddique said police were informed of the two deaths in his union.
