Locals burn bus after it runs over pedestrian in Bogura

A pedestrian died after a bus ran him over in the Gokul area on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Bogura Sadar Upazila at around 8am on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Badsha Miah, 60, said Bogura Police Station Inspector Md Shahinujjaman.

A Rangpur-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus ran Badsha Miah over when he was crossing the highway, said the police official.

Critically injured Badsha was rushed to a nearby hospital but he died on his way, said Shahinuzzaman, adding, "The body was handed over to family members." 

Soon after the incident, enraged locals cleared out the passengers from inside the bus and set it on fire, he added.

On information, two firefighting units from the Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot and doused the flame.

Locals caught the bus driver, Yasin Ali, 40, and handed him over to Highway Police.
