Khairuzzaman wins RCC mayoral race

Bangladesh Awami League candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has been reelected as Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) for the second consecutive term, according to unofficial results announced on Wednesday night.

Khairuzzaman Liton bagged 1,60,290 votes against his nearest candidate Murshid Alam of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, who got 13,483 votes, said Delwar Hossain, Returning Officer of RCC election-2023.

Latif Anwar Hossain of Jaker Party got 11,713 votes, while Jatiya Party candidate Saiful Islam got 10,272.

Some 56.20 percent of voters cast their votes, the result said.

There were 3,51,982 voters, including 1,80,809 females, 155 polling centres in 30 wards.

At 4:00 pm, the voting was over, and counting began at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy.

There are 111 people vying for the 30 general councilor seats and 46 for the 10 reserved councilor seats.

A total of four candidates are racing for the post of mayor of RCC.

The election was held peacefully on Wednesday from 6 am to 4 pm using electronic voting machines.
