Police seize 52 sacks of sugar in Sherpur

Police have seized 52 sacks of sugar concealed next to a heap of sand in Sherpur.

The sacks of sugar were seized during a drive on Tuesday night. Police sent them to the court on Wednesday.

Locals and police sources said, tipped off, police conducted a drive at Sherpur Sadar city. A total of 52 sacks of sugar, each weighing 50kgs, were seized. The sacks were covered with a sheet of tarpaulin next to a heap of sand. The owner of the sacks could not be found.

Sherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Basir Ahmed Badal said, "Primarily it seems that the sugar was imported illegally. But we cannot say where it came from without an investigation."

A general diary was filed with the police station in this connection.
