Books essential for human civilization: Prof Abu Sayeed

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder and chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (BSK), said books are important components of human civilization, as they keep humans civilized.

Books help people to acquire knowledge of the world, the renowned educationist said while inaugurating the 'Batighar Library' at Khansama Chalk area Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon as chief guest.

He also underscored the need for encouraging more readers to take up books. Simple and creative books are essential for the mental development of children, he added.

At the inauguration ceremony, he spoke about his journey of nearly 45 years, and continuous efforts to build the habit of book reading among the youth.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division GSM Jafarullah, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Anisur Rahman, Additional Commissioner Bijoy Basak, and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Shamim Ahmed also spoke.

The owner of Batighar Deepankar Das was the chair.

Renowned economist Prof Sanat Kumar Saha, writer Mohiuddin Ahmed and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Editor of Batighar Jafar Ahmed Rashed also spoke.
