Police among 2 dead in Munshiganj road accident

Two individuals, including police personnel, died when a microbus ran them over at Louhajang of Munshiganj on Sunday.

The deceased police personnel were identified as Motaleb Hossain. The other person - a woman - could not be immediately identified.

Police and local sources said the incident happened at Padma Bridge (North) Police Station near the Mawa toll plaza of Padma Bridge at around 9:30am. Two others were injured in this incident.

A microbus going from Dhaka to Shariatpur lost control when it tried to turn a corner and ran over four pedestrians. The woman died on the spot. Three others were rushed to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where Motaleb died. The other two are still undergoing treatment.

A passenger of the microbus said the driver suddenly lost control and caused the accident.

Padma Bridge (North) Police Station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain said, "The microbus was seized, but the driver escaped. We are trying to capture him."
