Heavy traffic along Dhaka-Rangpur Highway ahead of Eid

Eid travellers have started leaving Dhaka city. As a result, the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway is experiencing heavier than usual traffic of vehicles headed towards the northern region.

The west bank of Bangabandhu Bridge saw an increased number of vehicles. As buses pick up and drop off homebound passengers at random places along the highway, it causes frequent congestion that even police personnel could not control.

This correspondent witnessed such a situation at the Kodda Mor area till noon on Monday.

Traffic Inspector (Admin) Salekuzzaman Khan said, "Due to the sudden increase in Dhaka-Northern region route vehicles, the number of passengers rushing to embark and disembark buses at random places has also increased. We are trying out hardest to control the situation."

Bangabandhu Bridge Authority Executive Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel said there is no traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway. If congestion is created on the Kadda More, that is the concern of the traffic police.
