Lightning strikes kill 3 in Chapainawabganj

Three people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes at three upazilas of Chapainawabganj on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Omar Ali, Anwar Hossain, and Shariful Islam.

Local and police sources said, Omar Ali was struck by lightning and died while working at a paddy field in the Jamtala area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. He was a resident of Bholahat upazila.

Around the same time, Anwar Hossain died similarly while working in a field at Mushribhuja village of Doldoli union of Bholahat upazila. 

Shariful Islam died in his own house in Prosadpur village of Gomostapur upazila. He was using his mobile phone when lightning struck nearby. Shariful became gravely ill and was taken to the upazila health complex when the duty doctor declared him dead.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rowshan Ali, Bholahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Reza, and Gomostapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the three incidents.
