Bus-truck collision kills 3 in Gaibandha

A head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Gaibandha has killed three including the bus's helper. The incident also injured at least 20.

Police were unable to identify the deceased. The incident happened at Balua Bazar area of Gobindaganj upazila at around 11:30pm on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said a Rangpur-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan was coming from the direction of Dhaka. It engaged in a head-on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway.

The helper died on the spot, while two others, including a woman, died while they were being rushed to the hospital.

On information, Fire Service and Civil Defence Gaibandha unit firefighters reached the spot. They rescued the injured and sent them to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

Gobindaganj Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam confirmed that one person died on the spot. However, he could not confirm the other two deaths.

Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex duty doctor Hedayatul Islam said the bodies of two deceased, including a woman, were in the hospital. Their identity could not be confirmed.
