Log pile catches fire at Matarbari power plant

A pile of logs in the Township area of the Matarbari coal-fired power plant in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali has caught fire.

The fire broke out in the log pile stocked by the Guardian company at around 1pm on Saturday.

Confirming the incident, the project's security official Alfaz Uddin said, some unused logs suddenly caught fire and created panic among the workers and employees.

"The project's security team and the Fire Service and Civil Defence are working to bring the blaze under control," he said.

Firefighters were still trying to bring the fire under control till the filing of this report at 6pm.
