Suspected robber lynched, cop hacked in Manikganj

A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Manikganj Sadar upazila early on Sunday. A police constable was also hacked with a sharp weapon during the incident.

Confirming the matter, Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rouf said the incident happened at the Meghshimul area of Jagir Union under Manikganj Sadar at around 2am on Sunday.

The injured police constable Rakib was admitted to the Manikganj 250-Bed District Hospital. But the identity of the deceased could not be confirmed.

OC Rouf said police learned from National emergency service 999 that a band of 7-8 miscreants were stopping vehicles and looting money and goods on the Meghshimul area of the Dhaka-Aricha highway. When police reached the spot, several robbers with their faces covered in towels tried to escape.

As police gave chase, one of the suspected robbers hacked at Constable Rakib with a sharp weapon.

Later, passengers of a looted bus and locals started beating one of the suspected robbers. He was rushed to the Manikganj 250-Bed District Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead. Other robbers were able to escape.
