2 killed as bus runs over autorickshaw in Bogura

An autorickshaw driver and his passenger were killed after a bus ran them over at the Baghopara area of Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Bogura late on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Bappi Miah, 35, and passenger Arif Rahman, 28. Another passenger, Tutu, 40, was injured. He is currently receiving treatment at Bogura TMSS Medical College and Hospital.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Inspector (Operation) Foim Uddin confirmed the matter. He said a Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus from Rangpur collided with an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction at around 11pm, leaving Arif dead on the spot.

Autorickshaw driver and the other passenger were rushed to the hospital. Later, the driver succumbed to his injuries at around 1am.

The inspector also said that the driver of the bus lost control over its steering and hit an electricity pole next to the highway. The bus caught fire afterwards.

On information, Fire Service and Civil Defence members rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Passengers were evacuated from the bus, so there were no casualties among them. The bus driver and his assistant escaped the scene. Legal measures will be taken in this regard, the inspector said.
