Two JMB men jailed for 17 years

A Khulna court has sentenced two members of banned militant organization Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 17 years and six months imprisonment in an Explosive Act case.

Rozina Akhter, Judge of Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal, announced the verdict in a crowded courtroom in presence of the JMB men on Tuesday, reports BSS.

Before pronouncing the verdict, some 22 witnesses were examined, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Showkat Ali Suza.

On January 25, 2020, police arrested two youths - Momtazul Islam Rafi, 26, son of Md Rezaul Karim hailed from Shibganj upazila in Bogura district and Nur Mohammad Anik, 27, son of Abdur Rahman of Ghior upazila in Manikganj – from near Gallamary area in the city with huge bomb making materials. 

On the next day, a case was filed by Momtazul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga Police Station.

The then DB inspector of KMP Enamul Haque pressed charge-sheet to Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court accusing the two JMB men on August 22 in 2020.
