Microbus-CNG autorickshaw crash kills 6 in Sylhet

A head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a microbus carrying tourists has killed six people in Khagail of Sylhet.

The accident happened in front of Piaingul Kalim Ullah High School on the Sylhet-Companiganj-Bholaganj Highway at around 8:30am on Thursday.

The Sada Pathor-bound microbus from Sylhet collided with the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction and consequently, both vehicles fell into a roadside ditch full of water.

Confirming the incident, Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge K M Nazrul Islam said among the deceased, five were passengers of the auto-rickshaw and another was microbus driver.

Two of the deceased were identified as Kazi Amir Uddin from Kalibari village and Kalon Miah from Islampur village of Companiganj.

Eyewitnesses said a tyre on the right side of the microbus got punctured and caused the accident, leaving five passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot while the microbus driver succumbed to injuries at hospital.
