Bangladeshi man shot dead along Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by members of the Khasia community in India along the Lalakhal border of Jaintapur Upazila in Sylhet on Thursday.

Two more people were injured in the incident.

Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruq said the deceased was identified as Rubel Hossain, 22, while the injured are Abbas Miah, 25, and Mizan Miah, 22.

According to locals, some Khasi people on the Indian side of the Bangladesh-India border fired on the Bangladeshi men next to Pillar number 1301 of Sari River thinking that they were smugglers.

After getting shot, Rubel was rescued and taken to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to death at around 10am. The other two injured men received first aid, they added.
