17 killed in Jhalokathi bus accident: Probe body formed

A 5-member probe committee was formed to investigate the incident in Chatrakanda of Jhalkathi where a bus fell into a pond next to the road and caused at least 17 deaths on Saturday.

The committee was formed with Additional District Magistrate Mamun Shibli as the convener. The committee has to submit a probe report within the next three days.

At least 17 people died and around 25 were injured when a passenger bus lost control and fell into a pond in the Chatrakanda area of Jhalokathi at around 10am on Saturday.

The Barishal-bound bus from Bhandaria of Pirojpur was carrying more passengers than its capacity, both inside the bus and on the roof. 

Jhalokathi Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) member Mamun confirmed that 17 bodies were recovered.

Bodies of the deceased were taken to Jhalokathi District Hospital. The injured are also receiving treatment in the same hospital.
