Bodies of 2 ex-UPDF leaders found in Khagrachari

Police recovered two bullet-hit bodies from the Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Alopom Chakma, 47, and Pritimoy Chakma, 46, both residents of the Modhupur area in Khagrachari Sadar.

They were expelled leaders of the Chattogram Hill Tracts-based political group United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), the group's central president Shyamol Kanti Chakma confirmed. Their bodies were recovered from the Alutila Germplasm area at around 10am.

Local women first spotted the bodies on the road at around 7am. They notified local Union Parishad member Shantimoy Tripura of the matter, who then notified the police.

Police recovered the body and they were taken to Matiranga Police Station after primary examination. The police station's Officer in Charge Md Zakaria said the bodies would be sent to Khagrachari District Hospital for post-mortem. Legal steps would be taken if complaints are lodged, he added.
