Fire guts house in Louhajang, kills 2

A fire which broke out in a house in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj killed a woman and her brother-in-law on Sunday morning.

The incident happened in Jangalia village of Boultali union at around 8:30am. The deceased were identified as Nasrin Akhtar, 23, daughter of Nur Islam, and Imran Sheikh, 25. Imran was Nasrin's brother-in-law.

Confirming the incident, Louhajang Fire Service and Civil Defence official Abdul Matin said, "On information, we went to the location at 8:45am. As the house was in the middle of a beel, the fire tender could not reach the spot. We arrived via boats and conducted a rescue operation. Bodies of two people, named Nasrin and Imran Sheikh, were recovered from the location."

The tin house was gutted in the fire, he said. It is primarily assumed that the fire originated from an electric short-circuit.

Nur Islam said, "My daughter Nasrin, her husband Shubho, and her brother-in-law Imran came to visit a few days ago. Shubho went to Dhaka for business on Sunday morning. My daughter and her brother-in-law were home.

"Suddenly a fire started at around 8:30am. We tried to douse it with water. Failing that, we called the fire service. The house was gutted before they arrived, and my daughter and her brother-in-law died."

Louhajang Police Station Officer in Charge Al Tayabir said members of the FSCD handed over the bodies to the police station, which will be later sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy. No case or general diary has been filed yet in this connection.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abdul Awal said he visited the location and the families of the deceased were given Tk 25,000 each on behalf of the authority.
