School teacher's partially decomposed body found in Joypurhat

The partially decomposed body of a retired school teacher was found in her house in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat. The deceased was identified as Zobaida Khatun, 66.

According to police and locals, Zobaida used to live alone in her house in Alampur village. Relatives failed to reach her by phone since July 31, after which they called Zobaida's neighbours.

When they went to look for her, the neighbours found a putrid smell coming from her house. They saw her partially decomposed body on a chair and notified the local police station. Police recovered the body on Wednesday night and sent it to the Joypurhat District Hospital for an autopsy the next morning.

Alampur Union Parishad Chairman Anwaruzzaman Nadim said, "Zobaida Khatun was a primary school teacher. She retired 5-6 years ago. Her children are all teachers."

Her relationship with family members was fraught, so she lived alone, the UP chairman said.

"No one knows when she died. Police came and recovered the body from her house at night," he said.

Khetlal Police Station Officer in Charge Anwar Hossain said Zobaida Khatun's husband and children live in the city, and she was living a solitary life in the village.

"As her body was partially decomposed, it is assumed that she died 3-4 days ago. But the reason behind her death was not found yet," he said.
