Policeman commits suicide with his own rifle

Firoz Ahmed, a police constable, has committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his own rifle in Panchagarh.

According to the information provided by the colleagues, the incident took place inside the Sonali Bank in the district town on Thursday night. 

The constable was in charge of security of the Sonali Bank, they said.

The deceased Feroz Ahmed is the son of Abu Sayeed of Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur.

According to the police, on hearing the sound of gunshots, other colleagues came and rescued him in a bloody state and took him to Panchgarh Modern Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Feroze dead. 

Earlier, colleagues, who were on-duty there, said Feroz was involved in argument with his wife on mobile phone.

Sadar Police OC Abdul Latif Mia said the policeman is believed to have committed suicide by shooting himself in the head due to a family dispute.

The incident is under investigation, he continued, saying that the body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem.
