Traffic halts on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway

Heavy rain and landslides caused several parts of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway to become inundated. As a result, vehicular movement on the road remained suspended since Tuesday morning.

According to the locals, water on the Sangu River was flowing above the danger mark. Parts of the highway along the Keranirhat, Chandanaish, and Dohajari areas went underwater. In some places, the road went under 3-4 feet of water, putting a stop to traffic.

Khorshed Bin Ishak, Union Parishad chairman of Hashimpur under Chandanaish Upazila, said his union as well as the adjacent Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway has become inundated.

Confirming the matter, Satkania Police Station Officer in Charge Yasin Arafat said, "The highway went under several feet of water after heavy rain. Movement of all kinds of vehicles stopped on the road this morning. The area's people have become stranded in the water."

Meanwhile, the highway in the Keranirhat area went under waist-high water, said the area's Traffic Inspector Jillur Rahim.
