Doctor killed in Barishal car crash

A doctor was killed in a private car crash on the Barishal-Dhaka Highway in Gournadi upazila of Barishal on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Dr Iqra Binte Hafiz, 28. The car's driver, Nahid, 30, was critically injured.

According to Gournadi Highway Police Station and Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), the private car was crossing the Kataksthal area of the upazila at around 6:15am when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with a tree next to the highway.

On information, Gournadi FSCD rushed to the spot and rescued the driver and the passenger. After taking them to the Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, the duty doctor declared Iqra Binte Hafiz dead.

Nahid was sent to Dhaka's National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) for better treatment.

Confirming the matter, Gournadi Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Tamal Sarkar said Iqra was an intern doctor at Uttara Women's Medical College. She hailed from Cumilla.
