Traffic on Dhaka-Cox's Bazar highway normal after 2 days

Vehicular movement on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway returned to normal on Thursday as the road is no longer inundated.

Heavy rain and landslides caused several parts of the highway to become inundated and traffic was

suspended since Tuesday morning.

While traffic on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway resumed, road communication with Bandarban remains suspended.

Dohazari Highway Police Station Officer in Charge Khan Mohammad Irfan told the Daily Samakal, "Traffic became normal since this morning as the water receded from the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway. A few places are still inundated, but will dry up by the afternoon if it does not rain again."

Jillur Rahim, traffic inspector of the Keranihat area of Satkania, said water started to recede from the highway on Wednesday afternoon.

"All kinds of vehicles are running on the highway since this (Thursday) morning," he said.

Meanwhile, large stretches of cropland and residential areas remained inundated on Thursday. People are still forced to stay in the shelters as water is yet to recede from their homes.

Four upazilas in Chattogram, as well as Cox's Bazar and Bandarban districts, became flooded in four consecutive days of heavy rain and resulting landslides.

According to the district's disaster management department, 22,500 families in Satkania, 5,000 in Chandanaish, 15,595 in Patiya, and 4,000 in Lohagara were affected by the flood.
