Lightning strike kills student in Noakhali

A madrasa student was killed on Saturday as a result of a lightning strike in the Ahmad Mia Bazar Noorani Hefezia Madrasa area of the district's Hatiya upazila.

The dead was identified as Md. Nihaj Uddin, 14, son of Md. Didar Uddin, and a resident of Totargo House in Ward No. 7 of the Hatia municipality of the upazila. 

He was a student of the Hifz department of the Ahmad Mia Bazar Noorani Hefazia Madrasa.

Amir Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Hatiya Police Station, claimed that Nihaj was killed instantaneously by lightning while traveling back home from Madrasa at around 9am. It was raining then.
