Water levels of Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers rising

The water level of the Teesta River is flowing 6cm above its danger level at Kawnia Point of Kurigram on Monday. Moreover, water levels of the Dharla, Brahmaputra, and Dudhkumar rivers are also rising, sources at the Water Development Board said.

Due to the influx of water from upstream areas and consecutive days of heavy rain, the water of the Teesta River crossed the danger level. Dharla and Dudhkumar river's water is flowing slightly below the danger level, said Kurigram Water Development Board Executive Engineer Abdullah Al Mamun.

"We are hoping the water level of the rivers will start to decrease within 2-3 days. There is no risk of a widespread flood at this moment," he said.

Kurigram Agricultural Extension Department Deputy Director Biplab Kumar Mohanta said, 335 hectares of Aman paddy and 50 hectares of vegetable cropland have become inundated due to heavy rain. However, there is no risk of crop damage and the situation will return to normal as soon as the water recedes.
