Train service between Dhaka, Mymensingh resumes after 11.5hrs

Train service between Dhaka and Mymensingh resumed Monday morning after remaining suspended for nearly 11.5 hours due to the derailment of three bogies of a train in Trishal upazila on Sunday night.

The services resumed at around 8:30am on Monday after repairing the tracks, said Trishal Fetema Nagar Railway Station master Alamgir Hossain. A 5-member committee was formed to probe the issue, he added.

Three bogies of the Dhaka-bound Agnibina Express derailed and halted rail communication between Dhaka and Mymensingh at around 9:30pm near the Fatema Nagar station. The train, with seven bogies, left for Dhaka at around 11:45pm the same night. The three derailed bogies were recovered, and the remaining six bogies also left for Dhaka at around 5am on Monday, said Mymensingh Loco Shed in-charge Md Alauddin.

Meanwhile, Mohonoganj Express, Jamuna Express, and Brahmaputra Express trains remained halted since 2am on Monday as a result of the derailment.

Mymensingh Railway's Executive Engineer Md Akram Ali told the Daily Samakal, "The train moved nearly 400 metres after the derailment. This damaged the tracks and the repair work took some time."
