Jashore derailment: train communication resumes after 7.5hrs

Train communication of Jashore with the rest of the country resumed seven hours after an oil-laden train derailed at Basundia Baniargati of Sadar upazila.

The derailment happened at around 4am at the Baniargati rail crossing on Thursday. No casualties were reported.

Several trains were stranded in Khulna and Jashore stations as a result of the derailment. After recovering the derailed bogie, the Khulna-bound Chitra Express left Jashore. Other trains followed suit.

Earlier, Jashore Railway Junction Station Master Aynal Hasan said, the Natore-bound train left from Khulna and derailed near Singia station, snapping Khulna's train communication with the rest of the country. A rescue vehicle was brought from Khulna to recover the oil-laden tanker.

Meanwhile, locals swarmed the area with buckets and other vessels to collect oil spilt from the derailed bogie, disrupting recovery work.
