Elderly woman drowns in school pond

Police recovered the body of an elderly woman from the Magura Govt Boys' High School pond on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rubia Begum, 65, wife of Md Taser Ali Sheikh of TV Clinic Para in Magura city.

A local man went to the pond to take a bath at around 6am, when he saw the body floating on the water. On information, police recovered the body.

Rubia Begum was suffering from epilepsy, according to her son Nayan Sheikh.

"My mother left the house on Friday, after which we couldn't find her. On Friday morning, locals said a woman's body was floating in the school pond. I went there and saw that it was my mother," he said.

Confirming the matter, Magura Sadar Circle Additional Police Superintendent Debashish Karmakar said the body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
