2 workers suffocate to death inside septic tank

Two workers died while working in a septic tank at Chhagalnaiya of Feni on Friday. Their bodies were recovered on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Bikash Chandra Das, 22, and Mohiuddin Moin, 35.

According to the relatives of the deceased workers, they were working under sub-contractor Kamal Uddin at a building in Pashchim Chhagalnaiya. On Friday, they were told to work inside the septic tank.

Bikash went inside the septic tank first and instantly lost consciousness. To rescue him, Moin went inside, but he also faced the same fate. Out of fear, Kamal Uddin rounded up the other workers and left the spot.

When Bikash and Moin remained missing, their family members went to Kamal's house and asked for their whereabouts. Kamal denied having any knowledge of what happened.

An associate of Kamal secretly told the family members that the two workers were tangled in an electrical wire and were electrocuted to death.

On Saturday morning, the family members came to the building at Chhagalnaiya and found the two bodies floating inside the septic tank. On information, police and fire service came and recovered the bodies.

Sub-contractor Kamal could not be reached over the phone.

Confirming the incident, Chhagalnaiya Police Station Officer in Charge Sudwip Roy said the bodies were sent to Feni Hospital for autopsy.

Chhagalnaiya Circle Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Wali Ullah said a three-member committee was made to probe the incident.
