Gas cylinder blast burns 3 of a family

An explosion from a gas cylinder leakage has burned a married couple and their child in Narayanganj. The incident happened on the ground floor of a house in the Nagerchar area of Araihazar at around 3am on Sunday.

The three injured were Arijit, 35, his wife Rinku, 28, and their 19-month-old son Kabya. Arijit works at an NGO, while his wife is a homemaker. All three of them were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS).

Arman Mollah Ali, a neighbour who brought the family to the hospital, said the family used gas cylinders for cooking. Rinku was about to turn on her stove to warm up her child's food. But as soon as she struck a match, the resulting spark ignited the leaked gas and caused a blast, burning all three of the family.

Doctors at the SHNIBPS said Rinku suffered 80 per cent burn on her body and her situation is critical. Her husband and child suffered 14 and 20 per cent burns, respectively.

Confirming the incident, Araihazar Police Station Officer in Charge Humayun Kabir Molla told the Daily Samakal that there was no Titas Gas supply to that house. It is assumed that the blast was caused by a gas cylinder. More details can be found after an investigation.
