Fire guts at least 200 shops in Narsingdi

A massive fire broke out in Baburhat, the biggest wholesale clothes marketplace in the country, on Sunday night.

The fire first broke out in a shop named Nilufa Fabrics in Baburhat, which is situated in Shekherchar of Narsingdi, at around 11:15pm. Eight units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence worked for 2.30 hours to bring the fire under control.

More than 200 shops were razed to the ground within this time, but no casualties were reported. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Palash Upazila FSCD official Hadiul Islam confirmed the matter to the Daily Samakal. However, he could not confirm the extent of damage in the fire.
