Passenger bus set on fire in Chattogram

Miscreants set fire to a bus at Chattogram's Karnphuli upazila on Wednesday morning, the second of a three-day countrywide blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded political parties.

The bus was going from Chattogram to Patia in the morning. When it reached the Bhellapara area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway, around 20-30 people attacked the bus and set fire to it at one point.

On information, a team of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

Md Mozammel, 60, who was driving the bus, sustained injuries in the incident. He is now receiving treatment at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Karnaphile Model Fire Service Station Inspection Soaib Hossain said they received information about the bus on fire at 8am in the morning. A unit of firefighters rushed to the spot to douse the fire.

"Some men came from the direction of Patia and set the bus on fire. Many of them were wearing masks. An effort is ongoing to identify them," Karnaphuli Police Station Sub-Inspector Mobarak Hossain said.
