Gas blast burns 5 of a family in Rupganj

An explosion caused by a gas line leakage has injured five people of the same family at a house in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

The incident happened at around midnight on Friday at Jahangir's house in the Aukhabo area of Bhulta Union.

All five of the injured were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS). They were identified as Oli Ahmed, his wife Hasen Banu, their son Omar Faruq, their daughter Sahara Begum, and Hasen Banu's brother Sonauddin. They were tenants of Jahangir's house.

Confirming the matter, Bhulta Police Station Officer in Charge Mustafizur Rahman said police rushed to the spot as soon as they learned of the blast. An investigation into the matter is underway.

All five of the burned are in critical condition, Hasen Banu's nephew Md Nure Alam said citing doctors. Hasen Banu sustained 46 per cent burns, Oli Ahmed 58 per cent, Sahara 30 per cent, Omar Faruq 15 per cent, and Sonauddin 90 per cent.

The gas line in the house was not very effective, so the family attacked a compressor to the line two weeks ago, Nure Alam said. They were asleep when the blast happened.
