Miscreants set fire to Jamuna intercity train in Jamalpur

Miscreants set fire to the Jamuna intercity train at Sarishabari railway station in Jamalpur a few hours ahead of the 48-hour hartal that started Sunday enforced by BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties.

Railway sources said the fire gutted two bogies completely and another partially.

Miscreants set the train on fire as it set out for Tarakandi station from Sarishabari railway station around 1:10am on Sunday, they said.

Passengers first spotted the flame as the train was crossing the home signal area and started screaming, they added.

Earlier, the intercity train reached the Sarishabari railway station at 01:07am from Dhaka.

Fire service personnel from Sarishabari Upazila rushed to the spot and put out the fire after two hours of frantic efforts.

Officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Railway Station Gulzar Hossain said no one was hurt in the fire.

Station Master of Jamalpur Railway Station Sheikh Uzzal Mahmud said the Jamuna intercity train left for Dhaka from Jamalpur Station at 7:35am this morning with the burned coaches.
