AK Azad to contest as independent candidate from Faridpur

Former FBCCI president and Faridpur District Awami League Advisor AK Azad will contest in the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from the Faridpur-3 (Sadar) constituency.

He made the announcement at a meeting of his supporters and leaders-activists at the auditorium of his residence in the Jhiltuli area of Faridpur city at around 8:30pm on Monday.

After the meeting, AK Azad said, "To continue the development trend started by people's leader Sheikh Hasina in the Faridpur region, and out of consideration for my supporters, I want to contend the polls as an independent candidate.

"I want to contribute to the trade and commerce, education, and healthcare sectors. Especially, I have plans to establish industrial factories in this region which is lagging behind in terms of industrialisation."

He added, "I became interested in politics to give the chance of employment to the educated and less-educated youth population. I wanted nomination from the Awami League, and despite not getting it, I want to become a member of the parliament as an independent candidate and stand beside the people."

District Awami League Vice President Farooq Hossain, Faridpur City Awami League Convenor Monirul Hasan Mithu, Joint Convenor Moniruzzaman Monir, Advocate Badiuzzaman Babul, Faridpur District Awami League Advisor Shah Alam Mukul, District Awami League Members Shahidul Islam Niru and Faridpur-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon's Representative Advocate Shayedid Gamal Lipu, District Women Awami League General Secretary Nusrat Rasul Tania, Faridpur Sadar Upazila Awami League Office Secretary Manowar Hossain, Faridpur Sadar Upazila Macchar Union Chairman Zahid Munshi, Chandpur Union Chairman Shamsun Nahar  Muhit, Aliabad Union Chairman Omar Farooq Dabloo, Decreechar Union Chairman Mehedi Hasan Mintu, former chairman of Kanaipur Union Fakir Mohammad Belayet Hossain, former chairman of Ambikapur Union Abu Saeed Chowdhury Bari, as well as leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organisations, and thousands of supporters, were present at the time.
