Engineer dead, 3 injured in Panchagarh road accident

A Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) engineer died and three others including an Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) were injured as a car fell in a ditch in Panchagarh early on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Pirganj Upazila LGED engineer Abu Saeed. The injured are- Tetulia UNO Fazle Rabbi, Upazila Social Service Officer Al Amin, And ICT Assistant Programmer (AP) Nobiul Karim Sarkar.

At first, the injured were admitted to Panchagarh District Hospital. Then Al Amin was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as he was in critical condition.

The incident happened on the Panchagarh-Banglabandha Highway of the Chekormari area under Satmera Union in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila at around 1am.

According to police and locals, the officials were headed to Panchagarh from Tetulia. As the car reached the Chawai Bridge turn, it lost control and collided with a tree, falling into a ditch right after. Abu Saeed died on the spot. Later, Fire Service Members along with locals rescued the injured and brought them to the hospital.

The accident could have happened due to speeding, said Tetulia Highway Police Officer in Charge Jakir Hossain Mollah. But it is not yet clear who was driving the car.

Confirming the matter, Panchagargh Fire Service Station Officer Tushar Kanti Ray said they received information about the accident at around 1:15am. Their team recovered one dead body and three injured.
