Cumilla city mayor dies

Arfanul Haque Rifat, Cumilla City Corporation mayor, passed away on Wednesday evening. He was 66.

The mayor breathed his last at around 6:30pm while undergoing treatment at the Mount Elizabeth hospital in Singapore, Cumilla Sadar MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar confirmed. The mayor's body will be brought back to the country soon.

Mayor Rifat was first admitted to a specialized hospital in Dhaka on December 6. After his condition deteriorated, he was brought to Singapore on Sunday.

He was suffering from several health complications including diabetes and lung infection. He is survived by two daughters and one son.
