Bus-trolly collision kills 2 in Barishal

A Sakura Paribahan bus and a brick-laden trolly collided head-on in the Mundopasha area of Wazirpur on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway, killing two and injuring at least 10 others, on Sunday morning.

The two deceased were identified as trolly driver Sohrab Howlader, 28, and helper Rubel Howlader, 20, both from Barta village of Bamrail Union.

According to the locals, the bus from Barishal was headed for Dhaka with 10 passengers. It collided with the trolly in the Mundopasha area at around 6:45am.

The collision killed the driver and helper of the trolly on the spot. The trolly veered off the road and was heavily damaged. The front end of the bus was also damaged.

Wazirpur Fire Service, locals, and police rescued the 10 injured, including the bus' supervisor and helper. They were first given first aid at the Wazirpur Upazila Health Complex and later sent to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barisal. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to the same hospital.

The bus driver fled after the accident.

Wazirpur Model Police Station Officer in Charge Md Jafor Uddin said, "Primarily it is assumed that the accident occurred due to dense fog and reckless driving."
