3 of a family burned in refrigerator compressor blast

A refrigerator compressor burst at a house in Feni, burning a child and his parents on Tuesday night.

The explosion occurred on the 5th floor of Italy Bhaban house at the Shahid Shahidullah Kaisar Road of Feni City. The victims are – Ashish Kumar, 40, his wife Tumpa Rani, 30, and their son Wrik Kumar, 9. Feni Model Police Station Officer in Charge Md Shahidul Islam Chowdhury has confirmed the matter.

Ruhul Amin, an eyewitness, said a loud explosion alerted the neighbours of the blast. The locals first took the victims to Feni General Hospital. Dr Foyzul Kabir, who works at the hospital, said 70 per cent of Ashish's body, 40 per cent of Tumpa's body, and 30 per cent of Wrik's body sustained burns.

After receiving first aid treatment, the family was sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) the same night.

It is assumed that a fire originated from an electrical short-circuit. After that, the fire caused the refrigerator's compressor to explode, Feni Fire Service and Civil Defence Senior Station Officer Abdul Majid said.
