Asst presiding officer detained with Tk25,000 bribe

Police have detained Chowdhury Kudrat-e-Khuda, the assistant presiding officer of Harindhara Govt Primary School Centre under the Jamalpur-2 constituency, with Tk 25,000 he accepted as a bribe.

Locals captured him with the money at the centre around 1am on Sunday and informed police. Islampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Jamalpur-2 Assistant Returning Officer Sirajul Islam said, "Assistant presiding officer Chowdhury Kudrat-e-Khuda took Tk 25,000 from the supporters of some candidate to give the candidate illegal favour in the election. Locals captured him in the night and informed the police."

He was then suspended from electoral duties and a new presiding officer was appointed in his place.

Confirming the matter, Islampur Police Station Officer in Charge Sumon Talukder said legal measures are being taken against the official.
