4 BCL leaders die in Sylhet car crash

Four leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) died after their private car fell into a ditch at the side of the road at Jaintiapur on the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway late on Friday.

After the accident happened near the Banglabazar Bridge, Locals rushed the four victims to a hospital, where the duty doctor pronounced them dead at around 1am on Saturday.

The four deceased were identified as Tamal, 25, Nehal, 26, Jubayer, and Ali Hossain Sumon.

According to the locals, the four often visited various places at night. On Friday night, they were coming back to Jaintiapur from Tamabil. At around midnight, their car lost control and fell into a ditch at the side of the road.

As it was midnight, it took some time for the locals to notice the accident. At first, the locals rushed them to Jaintiapur Upazila Health Complex.

At the hospital, relatives of the victims and locals were agitated regarding an issue with the oxygen supply and attacked the staff. Several of the hospital's staff, including doctors, were injured in the altercation. A private car was also set on fire.

On information, police arrived and brought the situation under control. The four victims were taken to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital, where they were declared dead.

Confirming the matter, Jaintiapur Police Station Officer in Charge Tajul Islam said the bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem.
