Cold snap forces schools to close in Pabna, Natore

Classes in all educational institutes at the primary level in Pabna and Natore districts have been closed due to a cold wave and temperatures plunging below 10 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Pabna District Primary Education Officer Siddique Mohammad Yusuf Raja and Natore District Education Officer Shahadzzaman confirmed the matter to the Daily Samakal on Sunday night.

Despite classes being closed, teachers have to be present at the schools to perform other tasks.

According to the met office in Pabna's Ishwardi, the lowest temperature on Sunday was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius. The met office's official Nazmul Haque Ranjan said this situation may persist for another week.

Previously, primary schools in Kurigram, Panchagarh, and Dinajpur districts were shut due to the ongoing cold wave.

On January 16, the government gave a directive that said administrations can keep the primary and secondary schools shut if the temperature of a district dips below 10 degrees Celsius. Those institutions will remain closed until maximum temperature rises to 10 degrees Celsius or above.
