Two die in septic tank in Lakshmipur

Two people, including a house owner, have died Sunday night after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank while cleaning it at a house in West Rakhalia village of Sonapur union under Raipur upazila of the district of Lakshmipur.

One of the deceased was identified as Riyad Hossain, son of Noor Nabi Leda. Another one is a sweeper of the area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station, Yasin Farooq Majumdar said, “Sweeper first went down into the septic tank to clean it. But he got trapped inside the septic tank while cleaning. Later, the owner of the house Riyad Hossain went down rescue him. None of them returned anymore,”

Both died around 8pm, he added.

On information, police and fire service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies after breaking the septic tank, he said.

Necessary action will be taken after investigation, the OC added.
